TEASER:

“You’re bleeding.” The man sounded pissed off as if the fact that Scott was bleeding was somehow his own fault and a complete inconvenience. “Damn it, let me see them.”

Scott scrambled back on the bed, pushing into the wall. “Get the hell away from me!”

The man sighed and moved toward the wall. Light exploded within the room, and Scott lifted his hand to shield his eyes. “You’re really not in any position to make demands, Scott. Not with me.”

Scott froze against the wall, blinking rapidly to get his eyes accustomed to the light. “How do you know my name? Who are you and what the hell do you want with me?”

“There’s not a whole hell of a lot I don’t know about you, Scott,” the man answered dryly.

Scott dropped his hand and looked up at his captor. In any other circumstance, the man before him would have captured his attention. He was exactly the sort of man that Scott liked and fantasized about. He was tall, at least six foot four, and built like he knew his way around a gym and worked his way around one every chance he got. He had wavy black hair, short on the sides but longer on top, a square jaw with a day’s stubble, and blue eyes that had Scott’s heart stuttering within his chest. Did he know those eyes? Shaking his head and blaming it on the knock to his head, Scott put that thought aside and concentrated on what the man was saying.

“I know you are Scott Theodore Majors, you’re an ER nurse at St Luke’s, and you’ve just finished your shifts for the week. You’re not rostered on for the next four days.”

Scott started to tremble. From his medical training, he knew that shock was starting to set in.

Scott’s mind whirled. “I have a boyfriend, and he’s expecting me home. He would have called the police by now.” The man’s eyes narrowed, and Scott thought he might have just made a critical error.

“Did I not just finish telling you that there isn’t a lot I don’t know about you, Scott?” He whirled away and walked to a door Scott hadn’t noticed before. He opened it and switched the light on. “We are currently in the basement of my house, on my property in the middle of nowhere. My nearest neighbors are more than fifteen miles away, and no one comes to visit. There are no windows in this room, or in the bathroom through that door. The only way out is the way we just came. If you simply stay put and do what I tell you to do, then you will be comfortable. However, if you try to escape, I will move up my schedule and that will not go well for you.”

Scott’s stomach dropped. “Why?” he asked hoarsely, still none the wiser.

The man sighed, and sadness filled his eyes. “Sometimes, it’s the children that must pay for the sins of the father. That’s simply the way life goes.”

Going anywhere, little one?”

She stared at Christopher. His hair was all over the place, his robe open to reveal a chest smattered with dark hair. His eyes glistened deviously, matching his grin.

“Are you keeping watch over me, Mr, Bexley?” She crossed her arms over her chest, hoping that he couldn’t see her beaded nipples.

Christopher laughed.

“No such lucky, Miss Wiles. I thought I heard a noise and came to investigate.” He looked her up and down. Her cheeks burned. “I suppose you heard something, too, or you would have dressed more appropriately before coming out of your bedroom.”

She hastened to cover herself up. Sweat dripped down her back.

“Don’t do it on my account, I’m quite enjoying the view.”

Morgana scowled. Where was this heat coming from? “No. I couldn’t sleep. I’m waiting for Anne.”

“Are you? I haven’t seen her since we arrived”

She licked her lips. She needed a fan. Christopher shifted his weight and it hit her. It was him. His energy was like a hot ball of fire. Like an animal that had come from a hunt, or from a run. Primal. He took a step toward her. His robe shifted, revealing more of his chest. How would it feel to run her fingertips across his flesh?

“Yes.”

“Are you all right? You seem flustered.”

“I’m fine.”

Christopher raised his eyebrows.

“I’m fine,” she repeated. She tucked her hair behind her ears. “I’m just tired.”

“Maybe you should try and get some rest. If you can’t sleep, I’ll be happy to hold you.”

“Like you’re holding the woman in your bedroom? I think I shall pass down your offer, Mr. Bexley.”

He shrugged. “Your loss.”

He started to turn around but stopped. “You know, Miss Wiles, I don’t think your rejection sounded very convincing.”

Morgana stared at him. “I beg your pardon?”

Christopher’s eyes lit up as he sauntered toward her. Morgana backed up against the wall. He crowded her against it, placing his arms on either side of her head.

“You’re smothering me.”

“Good.”

“Mr. Bexley, this is—”

Christopher dipped his head so that she was staring into his eyes. They were the color of crushed pine needles. “Mr. Bexley this, Mr. Bexley that.” He gently grabbed her chin. Her heart skipped a beat.

“You’ve been watching me, little one. Watching me and wondering about my energy. I can tell a woman’s, a witch’s curiosity, and you are dying to know what my energy feels like. Will it really make you feel more powerful? Will it hurt you? Is it what you need to defeat that dark thing you’re so afraid of? I don’t have the answer to any of that, but I can tell you the surge of power you feel when you share your body with another human being. It is amazing. Your powers will be heightened, and you will have the ability to be faster, stronger, and to learn things quicker.”

Morgana swallowed. She should get out of here now that she could, but she was mesmerized. Yes, she was curious, but she knew better than to be led on by a man like him. She took in a deep breath, determined to say something witty and be rid of him. Instead his scent curled around her. He smelled musky and masculine, different from anything she knew.

“I’m going to kiss you now, Morgana. I’m going to kiss you and show you an inkling of what this feels like.”

His lips mashed against hers before she could think to protest. Morgana froze. They were warm and soft. He pulled back a bit and kissed her again. Her eyes drifted shut. Christopher put his arms around her and pulled her closer. He took her bottom lip between his teeth and tugged. She gasped. Her heart hammered against her chest. Butterflies rushed throughout her body, touching her with their wings and making her fly. She wound her hands into his hair, the silky strands slipping against her fingers. His tongue wormed its way into her mouth, curling around hers. Sparks danced behind her eyes. She arched her back and moaned. She could feel the outline of his cock beneath his robe. Liquid fire rushed to melt between her legs. Her swollen nipples rubbed against the material of her gown, begging for attention. Energy crackled between them. She could hear it, feel it, and taste it in his kiss, in his touch. It was palpable. Christopher slid his hands down her waist, over her hips. She held her breath. He tugged her bottom lip between his teeth. She groaned, following his mouth even as he pulled back. He grasped her chin and tilted her head. Morgana opened her eyes. Christopher looked at her as if bewildered. His brow was furrowed and though desire still shone deep in his eyes, there was also something akin to amazement.

“What?”

He blinked and the moment was gone. His eyes lightened and he grinned mischievously. “There you have it, little one. The power of a kiss.”

Our choices are rarely cut and dry.

Sara: As the daughter of Senator and presidential hopeful Jentsen Holbrook, I spent a good deal of my life under public scrutiny. What I wore. Where I went. Who I dated. It was just the way of things. I’d become what was expected of me, until I ran from my obligations and woke up one morning in Cross de Raven’s and Eryk Hale’s world, two hot guitarists from the mega-famous metal band, Cinder. For the first time, freedom to be myself was within my reach. And along with that? Inevitable scandal.

Eryk: True beauty walked into my life, more beauty than I ever deserved. I partied hard. Rocked harder. I wasn’t good enough to touch Sara’s petal-soft skin, hold on tight, or love her, but regardless of my bad boy ways, no one was going to stop me from trying.

Cross: Sometimes, no matter how hard we fight for what we want, love won't save the day, and truth doesn't always set you free. Then again… Maybe, just maybe, when you find the one you’ve been searching for, love can find a way.

Meet the Boys in the Band:

Excerpt:

I grabbed Cross’s phone off the bed stand and heaved a deep breath before dialing Father’s cell.
He didn’t answer. His voicemail message did.
“Hi,” I said after the tone, hating the shake in my voice. “I just wanted to let you know that I’m all right. There’s no need to worry. I promise.” Unsure what else to say, I added a hasty, “Goodbye,” and ended the call.
Adrenaline pumped through me like a jet speeding down the runway, thundering and rumbling through my limbs. I closed my eyes and inhaled, breathing in through my mouth and out through my nose, mentally counting to ten, waiting for his return call. Father never answered an unknown number, but he’d hear my message and—
The cell in my hand broke into song with a heavy beat and screaming guitar. I recognized the catchy tune as the one Cinder had opened with in Tacoma—and the number on the screen.
One last deep breath and I answered. “Hello, Father.”
“I can’t even begin to tell you how utterly disappointed I am right now.”
No hello or I’m happy you’re safe. Not even an, I’ve been worried.
“Do you have any idea of the amount of damage control—the lies—I’ve had to tell to make it appear as though all is well with the Holbrook family? That you haven’t taken off like a hormonal teenage ninny, but have left on a planned trip—”
A ninny? I’d never behaved in such a way, not once since my mother passed and Father heaped responsibilities upon me as a kid and forced me to grow up too fast.
I tuned him out as he released every last word of the speech he’d no doubt planned since he found me gone from home.
“I’m sorry,” I lied the second he finished.
“Pierce is beside himself,” Father said, his tone flat and unhappy.
I welded my eyes shut.
“He knows you’d never willingly leave him on the eve of your engagement and wanted to call the authorities, but I forbade him.”
“I didn’t say yes.” My voice was a mere squeak of sound.
Silence met my ears for the span of two heartbeats followed by, “Excuse me?”
A quick breath didn’t help my shaking. “I never said yes to Pierce’s proposal, which means we’re not technically engaged.”
I’d rendered my father speechless for the first time. Ever.
“Pierce Fitzpatrick is the perfect man for you,” he finally said, his voice hard and unwavering. “You’ll return home, accept his proposal, and set a date for the wedding. You will marry him, and want for nothing the rest of your life.”
But I don’t want him, I wanted to say. Instead, I bit the inside of my cheek and allowed the welling tears to spill.
“I want you back in D.C. tonight, young lady. Do I make myself clear?”
“Y-yes.”
“Call me with your flight information. I’ll have Arthur pick you up.” Father disconnected without a goodbye, and I dropped the phone onto my lap so I could press my palms against my eyes.
The bedroom door opened a few minutes later letting in the sound of airplanes and bombs before shutting again.
“Hey.” Cross sat beside me and pulled me against his chest. “Didn’t go so well?”
A sob escaped me. I shook my head, pressing closer against his warm body.
Shh…” He kissed my temple and rubbed my side until I quieted.
“I really need to go home,” I muttered against his delicious smelling shirt.
“Why?”
“Every selfish thing I’ve done since leaving has the potential to taint my father’s image and hurt his bid for the presidency. I’m making him lie to the press, and if found out, that would be really bad, considering all he stands for. They’ll say if he can’t keep his own child in line, how can he run a country?”
“You’re not a child.” Cross held me at arm’s length, unsmiling. “And you aren’t being selfish.”
“I am. I don’t do this.” I waved my hand to encompass the room.
Cross’s brow creased. “Do what?”
“Hide out on buses and fool around with hot men.”
He tilted his head, creating dappled shadows beneath his expressive eyes. “You’re stretching your wings. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
A weak smile lifted my lips. “What I do affects more than me. My father thinks D.C. and Pierce are best for me.”
Cross’s gaze softened as he tucked my hair behind my ears. “Is that what you think?”
“No,” I answered without hesitation. “Definitely not.”
Using his fingers, he swiped the moisture from my cheeks. “Then you’re not going anywhere.”
I opened my mouth to tell him I didn’t have a choice. Not really. But didn’t get the chance to speak because he claimed my lips.
Heat and lust slammed into me, slaying my guilt with the thrust of his tongue as he lowered me onto my back, persuading a moan from my chest.
This. This is what I want. What I need.
